Trip to JC Penney's

After being cooped up in our house for weeks because of illness we were all ready for a little outing. I had a gift card to use at Penney's so it made sense to take the kids out there, right?? Well... I get one of those black carts that look like a stroller and get Kailyn all strapped in, Lucas was walking and away we went. We went straight to the children's department and what's one of the first things we see? A large display of Elmo, Zoe, Mickey, and Minnie dolls. I turned my head for approximately one second and in the mean time Kailyn has turned herself around and is now standing (facing me) crying for the dolls!! Did I mention that I had her strapped in?? We quickly leave this area while distracting Kailyn with a toy that I had in the diaper bag. Whew!! Ok, now off to shoes!! While browsing through the women's shoes I turn around to see my little Lucas walk straight into one of the glass tables/shoe displays!! Ouch!! As I'm consoling my injured son, Kailyn is throwing her toy as far as she can and saying, "OH". Lucas now insists on being carried (in case another table jumps out and smacks him in the head). It is not that easy to push one of those carts while carrying a 30 lb child and large diaper bag. I'm worn out at this point and just do what I can to get them to the car and home.

Opthamology Appointment

Lucas had a good report from Dr. Krah today. His eyes are still looking good and his vision is 20/20. We, of course, think our little man is a genius for being able to read the eye chart (the letters). On the way to the appointment Lucas said, "Maybe Dr. Krah could just look in my ears today!". Lucas is very light sensitive so is not crazy about having those bright lights shone in his eyes during the visit. He is always very cooperative throughout the appointment, but we thought his ear suggestion was funny. Oh Lucas!! We just love this kid!

Um...No Thank You

Luke says, "no thank you" to most things these days. Me, "Do you need to go sit on the potty?". Luke, "um...no thank you". I get the same response when I ask him to come to the table for dinner, take a bath, go to bed, etc. At least he is polite, right? I do have to turn my head and giggle sometimes when I hear him respond this way. He is politely being defiant at times.

New Play Area

We finally purchased some storage for the kids' toys in the basement! It looks great and the kids are enjoying the new space.

New Dress

I can't wait for Kailyn to wear her new spring/summer dress!!! COME ON WARMER WEATHER! At least she'll get to wear it when we go to Houston.

Silly Kids

Story time with Daddy

Lucas gets a Jesus story and one story of his choice at bedtime. Here are a couple of pictures of Mark reading to Lucas from his bible.

Little Miss and Her Teddy Bear

Kailyn is now saying "bear"!! She loves all thing cute and cuddly, but her teddy bear is a favorite. She sleeps with him tucked under her arm every night.

Recovering

Kailyn is finally recovering from her 2 week long virus. We are so anxious to be done with the prednisone - it makes her CRAZY! She is either sleeping or wired and no in between. Luke has now caught the virus and we are praying for a speedy recovery. He is so congested that he can't breathe through his nose and he has a deep cough, but he still wanted to go to "nastics" today and church this evening. He, of course, did neither!! His only outing was to the doctors office.

Nice Outfit

After having a successful trip to the potty I asked Luke to go and get his jeans from his room. He came into the living room wearing this...

Snow boots (on the wrong feet) and no jeans!! I love it!

Shelbyville Visit

My brother and his family are in town from Las Vegas. I took the kiddos over to Shelbyville to spend the afternoon visiting with cousins that we miss soo much!! Lucas had so much fun playing with Ben that he tried to let the whole town know how sad he was about leaving (screaming the entire way out). Whew!!! He told me on the way home that he was mad at me. For about five minutes he seriously wouldn't talk to me, but then became chatty again and told me that he loved me. Kailyn enjoyed spending time with the girls and especially liked their little stuffed animals and shopping cart!

Our Little Baker

Lucas helped me decorate sugar cookies this evening. He was too cute turning on the kitchenaid and pouring in the ingredients. he would then drink whatever was left in the measuring cup, ""hmm... milk, yummy!". He loved the sprinkles and the blue icing. He kept telling me that blue was his favorite color and that it was Jackson's too! Jackson is his buddy - he made his debut on my blog last week. Lucas even helped me with the food coloring - I know very daring of me with a two year old. He is very particular like his father so I knew we would be okay (and we were!)

My Little Helper

Kailyn likes to cling to my leg most of the day, but paricularly while I am trying to fix dinner. It is definitely the most frustrating part of my day and thank goodness Mark is USUALLY home to help out. Today, Kailyn found something to entertain herself while I was cooking. You know what?? I was okay with it!!

Yay Lucas!

Lucas has been doing great on the potty for anyone that is interested. He has been wearing his big boy underwear around the house. They probably the cutest things I've ever seen (Thomas the Train of course). Here are a few pics of him putting stamps on his poster after a successful trip to the potty

Potty Training

We have not been giving our full attention to potty training until now. I know I am to blame because it is so much easier to just put Luke in a pull-up. I have decided to put him in his "big boy" underwear unless he is sleeping. He has done a pretty good job lately. We have been putting stamps on a potty chart that I made him. He has already earned a new little truck and now we are working up to an ice cream treat!! Does anyone have any other suggestions?? Some days he is so good and willing to sit on the potty and other days he says, "I too busy". Ahh, we'll get there.

First Steps

Kailyn took two steps last night and again today. I wouldn't say we are walking yet, but very close. She just needs to gain some confidence and I know she will take off! I will try and get some pics of her standing tomorrow. It looks like we may be snowed in tomorrow so lots of pictures to come.

Beautiful

Here are just some ridiculous eyelashes for you! Eyes just like her daddy!

Great Friends

Mark and I have been blessed with wonderful friends!! There is a particular couple who always come to my rescue. I'm not sure what we would do without Larry and RoseMarie. They just seem to know when we need some extra TLC and show up at our house with food. Kailyn has been sick all week and I haven't been able to move my neck. We are just worn out! We had fun things planned for the entire weekend and so far they have all gotten canceled due to Kailyn still fighting this virus. She is improving, but I'm afraid we are still contagious. This morning I got a phone call from RoseMarie saying that she had dinner for us tonight and she would drop it off later. What a blessing!! It was a wonderful meal and she even brought the kids special treats (and something for Mark and I as well). I will conclude this with Proverbs 11:25 "A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."

Shaken Baby?

A couple of days ago I was standing at our kitchen window dreaming about warmer weather when I see a mother and her young daughter (maybe 5)walking to the playground. I can see that the mother is holding something in her arms. When they reach the baby swings the mother puts this "something" in the swing. Now I can see the head and limbs of the baby. I was appalled to see the five year old swing this baby so hard that it's head was flopping around. I was thinking, "do i call dcfs, the police?". Then the little girl jerks the baby out of the swing and they begin walking closer to our house. After a few seconds of terror I realize that this "baby" is actually a baby DOLL!!!. Thank God!!
