Balance

Balance, balance, balance!  This word has been brought to my attention in so many ways.  It actually became humerous when yet another person, song, book, tv show talked
about this very thing.  When it came out of their mouths it was so loud to me that it should have been in a visible bubble, all caps, bolded if you know what I'm talking  about.  Has something like this every happened to you?  I know without a shadow of a doubt it was God speaking to me through all of these different people and things.  I had been praying for Him to speak to me ever so clearly.  Although never an audible voice in my ear from Him, it might as well slapped me upside the head.  I had spent my summer and early fall so wrapped up in stuff that I was neglecting the most important thing in my life.  Spending time in prayer and studying the Word was taking a back burner to life in general.  I was allowing other activities consume us, it was exhausting really.  I was missing that comfort, peace, and rest from God.  I tend to be an anxious person who lacks confidence and although I have been growing in these areas tremendously I know that I could be so much more if I let God take the lead instead of me.  When God began to speak about balance in my life I got the hint....after probably the 10th time.  Ugh, why did it take me so long!  A few weeks ago I came to a spot where I just started to let go and let God.  I put many things that are very important to me on the back burner until I could clearly figure out the balance I needed in my life.  I had to honestly start taking my own advice.  I spend my days helping people get started with exercise and proper eating habits.  It is so obvious to me and is easy because I like it and I'm pretty good at it.  I have found what works for me, created a habit, experienced the amazing results of better health.  I have been committed to some sort of exercise my whole life.  I started competitive gymnastics when I was 4 years old and continued on with volleyball into my high school years.  When I do something fitness related I really go for it.  I guess you could say, I'm ALL IN.  Volleyball wasn't just during the school season.  It was off season training, club volleyball with tournaments all over the country.  Once I got to college I continued to make exercise a part of my routine.  I scheduled all of my classes in the morning hours, went to the rec center to workout right after classes, and then headed home to study.  I was very structured when it came to my studies and exercise.  Sooo....exercise has always been my thing, always been a habit for me, so it was easy to fall back into it after having kids (and getting sidetracked a bit).  What has never been a habit for me, is prayer.  I accepted Christ into my life while I was in PA school down in Carbondale.  I had been searching for years, but that is another post.  It was an exciting time and I loved studying the Bible and spending some quiet time with the Lord.  The problem is that I never created a good habit.  I knew it was something that I needed to do and I even knew what to do, but I didn't put as a priority.  Oh my goodness, sound familiar?  Let me mention this again, I spend a lot of time helping people create a fitness habit.  They know they need to do it AND they know how to do it, but people still don't make the effort.  So frustrating to me, who loves to exercise, have created that habit, fully understands the benefits of exercise for general health.   Creating habits are tough!  I don't care how much you think and even know how it will change your life.  IT IS HARD.  I'm committed to creating this habit for my life and getting some much needed balance in my life.  What I am doing, it may sound silly, but hopeful.  I will spend time in prayer and devotional time BEFORE I workout each day.  I love to workout and may have a slight addiction, ok yes I am totally addicted.  Time to get addicted to God.
